Capes was born in 1949 in Holbeach, Lincolnshire, the seventh of nine small children, and like a youngster turned a member of Holbeach Athletic Club, exactly where he was coached by Olympic hurdler Stuart Storey, and represented his county in basketball, soccer and cross-country.In 1988, the Queen made a personal plea to Capes to take part in A dif
